All shots used Precision Rifle QT40 Solid 215 (actual weight for solid is 240 gr), cheaper than the Ballistic Tips used later for testing and hunting. The group size listed is theoretical, based solely on velocity variation of +/- one standard deviation.

From the table we can see some basic trends emerging:

• Musket caps produced slightly higher velocity.
• Musket caps produced more consistent velocity.

Based on results, I know what caps are going hunting with me.  I will warn you that musket caps will definitely blacken your scope if you don't protect it.  I use a piece of duct tape around the bottom of the scope and always use the weather guard provided with the rifle when I go to the range.  I didn't notice any permanent damage on my scope without the tape, but I shoot quite a bit and don't want to mar it unnecasarily.
